As part of the cultural cooperation between the Embassy of Mexico in Serbia and the City of Kragujevac, the exhibition "Amates de Xalitla" was opened tonight in the building of the District Headquarters (former Court building). In the presence of the mayor Nikola Dašić, the exhibition was opened by Carlos Felix, the ambassador of Mexico. On this occasion he announced the beginning of the twinning process between the City of Kragujevac and the Mexican city of Guanajuato.

The exhibition consists of a collection of 28 paintings from Xalitla, the Mexican state of Guerrero, made on a special Mexican papyrus - amate. They are part of the art collection of the Embassy of Mexico in Serbia.

These paintings were created by Mexican artists who used to peel the bark off a tree in order to get paper. Therefore, each of these images is authentic in its own way. These crafts served to describe the history of that time in Mexico. Fortunately, this way of painting has never been lost, so even today's artists in Mexico work on this type of paper. All these paintings have some kind of connection with naive painting in Serbia.

This is another step closer in the field of cultural cooperation with the city of Kragujevac as the twinning of the City of Kragujevac with the Mexican city of Guanajuato is in the process - said the ambassador of Mexico.

The Mayor of Kragujevac Nikola Dašić, pointed out that Kragujevac gladly accepted such an initiative because the city of Guanajuato has many similarities with Kragujevac, in terms of population, in the fact that it is a University center, the center of the automotive industry, and a festival city.

Tonight's exhibition, which brought the spirit of Mexico to Kragujevac, is a step closer in cultural cooperation, but also an announcement of the expansion of cooperation and future contacts and exchanges.

The exhibition will be open until April 28th .
