For the “Be a Part of the Plan” platform, the City of Kragujevac won third place in the Human-CentriCity category at the Seoul Smart City Prize competition. It is an award established by the World Smart Cities Organization (WeGO) and the Seoul City Government, with the aim of promoting an innovative as well as inclusive smart city model that cares for vulnerable groups in the era of Industry 4.0, because they believe that a smart city should be defined and measured according to how oriented it is towards people and technology, not just towards the advancement of technology.
The award is given in two categories: Tech-InnovaCity and Human-CentriCity. The City of Kragujevac applied with the project "Voice of the citizens in urban planning" for the platform "Be a Part of the Plan", which was implemented together with NALED and with the support of the Faculty of Geography in Belgrade. The Seoul Smart City Prize competition received 280 entries from all over the world. On behalf of the City of Kragujevac, the prize was received by the Deputy Mayor Dejan Ružić.
"Be a Part of the Plan" platform enables the citizens who register to receive a notification via e-mail, SMS or Viber messages that the existing or a new urban plan is being changed in the territory of the City of Kragujevac. Thanks to this platform, anyone can receive a notification as soon as the initiative to change the plan is launched, then during an early public insight and during a public insight, which is published on the website, and which also contributes to increasing the transparency of the work of local self-government. The additional importance of the platform is that the citizens now have a space where they can educate themselves in order to better understand what the plan is for, what the planning system is like and why they should get involved.
