“Lessons from a Memory” on the Great School Class

With the remembrance of the greatest atrocity in the history of Kragujevac, messages of peace were sent from Šumarice this year through the traditional anti-war manifestation The Great School Class, on which the poem "Lessons from a Memory" by Dragan Hamović was performed.

Near the Monument to the Shot Students and Teachers, the wreaths were laid by the teachers and students of the First Grammar School, the state delegation members: Nemanja Starović, the envoy of the President of the Republic of Serbia and Snežana Paunović, the Vice-President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Mayor of Kragujevac Nikola Dašić and the President of the City Assembly Ivica Momčilović, the representatives of embassies, sister cities, universities, city institutions and associations.

The Ministers in the Government of the Republic of Serbia, Dejan Ristić and Slavica Đukić Dejanović, as well as numerous representatives of public life attended The Great School Class.

With the feeling that lessons from history cannot be learned anywhere else like in this place in Šumarice, Minister Slavica Đukić Dejanović pointed out that October the 21st is the day of the deepest pain, but at the same time the day of the liberation of Kragujevac in 1944.

Kragujevac is a hero city, a city of pain and pride. The people of Kragujevac are proud and with a sense of dignity we remember the victims and send a message that Šumarice must never be repeated anywhere else in the world- said Đukić Dejanović.

The performance of the poem "Lessons from a Memory" is directed by Nebojša Dugalić. Beside the director, the cast is consisted of Boris Pingović, Miloš Krstović, Saša Pilipović, Nikola Milojević, Dragan Stokić, Avram Cvetković, Nađa Jakovljević, Ana Todorović, Aleksandar Petković, David Pilipović. The composers are Kalin Dugalić and Jana Dugalić, the conductor is Milan Nedeljković, and the costume designer is Jelena Janjatović. Along with the acting ensemble of the Princely Serbian Theater, actors from the Bard Theater took part in the performance.

The poet Dragan Hamović already had the experience of writing a poem about the shooting of civilians in his native Kraljevo. Both historical events were two acts of the same tragedy.
