The Ambassador of Japan in Serbia, H.E. Mr. Akira Imamura, was on a working visit to Kragujevac today. At the ceremonial reception organized by Mayor Nikola Dašić and his associates, it was concluded that the two countries, although geographically separated by thousands of kilometers, are very close and friendly.

It was a great honor for me to host H.E. Mr. Imamura today, and to discuss the possibilities for cooperation, said Mayor Dašić. This is his first official visit to Kragujevac, but as H.E. Mr. Imamura is extremely dedicated to his work, he wanted to get to know Kragujevac better, and he showed great interest in learning more about the economic environment of Kragujevac. The economy is one of the topics we talked about a lot, explained Mayor Dašić, but we also talked about investments and the cooperation in the field of science. In every sense, this was a very important and constructive visit for the City of Kragujevac, Mayor Dašić concluded.

Ambassador Imamura stated that it is very important for Japanese companies to have educated workers and that, in the conversation with the Mayor, he recognized that Kragujevac has got this potential. Thirty-four Japanese companies are now operating in Serbia. When it comes to the City of Kragujevac, there are already examples of cooperation. The State Data Center and the Japanese company Toshiba signed a Memorandum on Digitization. Also the company Mind Park produces parts for Hitachi, the Ambassador reminded. The University of Kragujevac does not have a Japanese language course which is another opportunity for cooperation and strengthening contacts between the people of Japan and Serbia, H.E. Mr. Imamura announced, adding that in the fields of sports and art two Japanese experts will soon be hired in Kragujevac.
