Ana Petrović Jelić, Member of the City Council for Culture, hosted a reception at City Hall for outstanding primary school students from Kragujevac’s sister city of Pitești, who are staying in Kragujevac as part of the traditional student exchange programme.
Over more than half a century of cooperation and 25 years of official twinning between Kragujevac and Pitești, numerous joint projects have been implemented in the fields of culture, sports, and the economy, as well as student exchanges, which are the most valuable part of our cooperation. For our fellow citizens, these have been years of friendship and mutual visits, said Ana Petrović Jelić, Member of the City Council. Speaking about the city’s history and cultural programmes, she expressed her satisfaction that this generation of students from the sister City of Pitești was welcomed at City Hall, a building constructed in the early 20th century and one of the city’s most important cultural and historical sites. She noted that students should visit it during their stay in Kragujevac, alongside museums, sports facilities, and other activities, before departing for Zlatibor. I am confident that they will take home memories that will last a lifetime, just as our students, who left for Romania this morning, will, she added.
A group of 23 students from Pitești arrived in Kragujevac accompanied by their teachers and a representative of the local government. Among them are educators from Mihai Eminescu Primary School, which has maintained cooperation for two decades with Milutin i Draginja Todorović Primary School in Kragujevac.
It is a great honour and pleasure to be part of a delegation that preserves and nurtures a tradition spanning 55 years, the length of friendship between our two cities, said Ionela Stancu, representative of the City of Pitești, expressing gratitude for the warm hospitality. I hope that future generations will continue along this path and that many more years of joint successes and projects lie ahead of us.
I am very happy to be taking part in this student exchange and I want to make the most of every moment, said Fortuna Robert Daniel, one of the top-performing students. I hope that many future generations will have the opportunity to enjoy this experience and create memories that will hold a special place in their hearts.
On Sunday, 12 July, the guests from Romania will travel to Zlatibor, where they will stay for five days. The Kragujevac primary school students who departed for Romania this morning will continue their journey to the Black Sea after spending time in Pitești.
