As part of the final activities of European Mobility Week - held across Europe from 16 to 22 September under the slogan "Mobility for All" - the City of Kragujevac hosted a workshop and showcased various projects and initiatives focused on sustainable urban mobility. Through this event, Kragujevac actively took part in a major European campaign aimed at enhancing urban mobility as a key element of sustainable development and improving the quality of life for its citizens.
This year's Mobility for All campaign aims to encourage citizens, institutions, and all relevant stakeholders to recognize the importance of sustainable urban mobility, active travel options, and greater inclusiveness and accessibility in transport. Special focus was placed on vulnerable groups and their social integration - both in transport and within the broader social context - thereby strengthening the community’s social cohesion, said Mr. Ivan Radulović, Chief City Planner of the City of Kragujevac. He added that today’s presentation of projects and programs serves as an introduction to tomorrow’s final workshop, which is part of the development of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan for the City of Kragujevac, carried out in cooperation with UN-Habitat.
Mr. Radulović recalled numerous urban mobility projects that the City of Kragujevac is currently involved in or that are underway, all of which are connected to the theme of sustainable urban mobility. Among the most significant, he pointed out the EU Horizon project "Green Force", which focuses on the transition of public transport and urban mobility from conventional to green technologies. He also mentioned two important UN-Habitat projects, one of which will result in the development of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan for the City of Kragujevac — one of the key strategic documents in the city’s public policy framework. The "Quality of Life Initiative" project focuses on assessing quality of life, which is closely linked to urban mobility. Similarly, the EU INTERREG projects “InMobility” and “Parsmo” address topics such as shared mobility and "transport poverty." These issues are directly related to the slogan of European Mobility Week — accessibility and inclusiveness for all population groups, especially vulnerable ones such as people with disabilities, the elderly, mothers with children, and others, emphasized Mr. Radulović.
At today’s workshop held at the Đura Jakšić House, representatives of the Center for Independent Living of Persons with Disabilities and the Youth with Disabilities Forum presented the City’s Accessibility Strategy along with the accompanying Action Plan. In addition, the results of a survey conducted by the "Šumadija" Academy Kragujevac (carried out between September 2 and 21) were presented, focusing on citizens' experiences and opinions regarding traffic and urban mobility in the city.
